2018 Inclusiveness@Work Corporate Nominee: The Spivey Consulting Group

The Spivey Consulting Group (“Spivey”) was established to help clients understand leading strategies for admissions, employment, and law school administration.

They work with:

  • Prospective law students–by assisting students through the admissions process and helping them secure admission.
  • Admitted law students – by giving students a thorough introduction to the essential skills needed in law school.
  • Current law students – by advising them with legal employment strategies and
  • Law schools – by assisting Admissions, Career Services, and Communications Departments to meet rapidly changing legal education and employment demands.

As professionals with intimate knowledge of the legal profession, they recognize the importance of having a diverse and inclusive workplace. Part of their efforts include helping their clients to recognize, support, and understand how these issues affect them personally and professionally.

“As a first generation law student, I was worried to start law school with no knowledge of how the process worked or what to expect. [I was given] the tools I needed to go into law school with confidence.” UC Irvine 1L

But outside of their clients, Spivey believes having a diverse and inclusive workplace is critical to their success.

Anna Hicks says “The Spivey Consulting Group employs a diverse set of people from a wide range backgrounds and perspectives, and I have seen firsthand how much and how positively this dynamic has affected the company. Everyone’s thoughts and opinions are valued, and through that way of thinking and working, our company has become widely recognized as the top firm in the field despite never spending a single cent on advertising. We never could have done this without the inclusion of the perspectives of women, minorities, and members of the LGBT community.”

Their diverse staff, with varied backgrounds and experiences, brings their authentic self to the workplace, which allows them to be more effective with their clients. It is because of this community, recognizing the value of both employees and clients, that Spivey is recognized as one of the top firms in this arena.
