CLI announces new board member
Denver, CO, December 20, 2016– The Board of Directors for the Center for Legal Inclusiveness (CLI) announced Joel Sayres as its new member.
Joel Sayres, a partner at Faegre Baker Daniels and a 2017 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow, counsels clients in complex patent, trademark and copyright matters, with a focus on patent litigation. He was drawn to serve on the CLI board because of the importance of CLI’s mission and the continuing need for progress in advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. Joel believes that while more awareness is being devoted to inclusiveness, there is still a long way to go to ensure that incredibly talented and diverse perspectives are not being explicitly or implicitly “shut out” of access, participation, and positions of power within the industry. With increased awareness (and prioritization by in-house counsel and other key players) comes opportunity to further hone the message of the values of inclusion, and how that can be effectively promoted within individual organizations.
Prior to joining Faegre Baker Daniels, Joel practiced for several years in California at Irell & Manella LLP, where he focused on patent litigation, unfair business practice disputes and internal investigations. Joel also previously served as a directing attorney at Public Counsel Law Center in Los Angeles, where he focused on representing victims in sophisticated mortgage fraud and home-equity-theft litigation. He was co-chair of the Litigation Training Committee and a clinical instructor for the Pepperdine University School of Law externship. Joel has also co-taught a semester-long course on patent litigation at the University of Colorado Law School.
